Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), dared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to expel him from the organisation on Wednesday.
He further stated that no PDP member had the authority to discipline him and that, rather, it was his responsibility to do so on a rotating basis for those who disobeyed the party’s charter.
Wike spoke against the backdrop of the PDP crisis that erupted prior to the 2023 presidential election, during which he and a few other individuals, known as the “G5 Governors,” conspired to defeat the party’s nominee, Atiku Abubakar.
UPDATE: PDP Has Right To Suspend, Expel Wike – Court Rules
The former governor of Rivers State afterwards accepted a cabinet position in President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The development raised new concerns that Wike would be suspended by the PDP leadership for anti-party activities.
Wike asserted that the PDP cannot expel him from the party during an interview with Politics Today on Channels Television on Wednesday.
He also made fun of the PDP leadership, claiming that the person attempting to have him suspended was unable to elect a governor, three senators, or any assembly members in his state, despite having given the PDP control of the governorship, the State Assembly, and the National Assembly in Rivers State.
He said: “How can anybody talk about expelling me? A state that provided the Governor? A State that brought three Senators? A State that produced 32 Assembly members? A State that produced 11 out of 13 House of Reps.
2023: PDP’s Plan To Suspend, Expel Gov Wike Stopped By Court
“The person that wants to suspend me is the one that couldn’t produce a Governor or three Senators or Assembly. I’ve not seen that person that will suspend me in PDP. Nobody will do it.
“Who will discipline me? I should be the one calling for discipline for those who violated the party’s constitution on rotation. I want to dare anyone who will say I should be suspended. I’m a man of character.
As earlier reported by Anaedoonline.ng, Wike said he obtained permission from the PDP before accepting Tinubu’s ministerial appointment, adding that he worked in the interest of justice, equity, and fairness.
“I wrote to my party about my nomination, and they replied that I should accept it. Forget about their rantings, they are all regretting their actions, and that’s what led the party to what it is today. I worked in favour of justice, equity and fairness,” he said.
Wike continued, “Some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are not pleased that President Tinubu appointed me as a minister.” However, the former governor of Rivers State claimed that despite the change, he continues to be a PDP supporter.
Edo: What APC Said About Expelling Oshiomhole From Party
“God supports the action we’ve taken to support President Tinubu. Some APC members are not happy that I’m FCT minister. At my level, do I need to play game? Why will you put my name? I’m still a member of PDP. I’m not a kid, if I want to play a role, I will. I’m not a member of APC,” Wike submitted.
