After our previous posts about fake products, we have gotten a lot of emails from people who have shared their experiences with shopping at the mall and it comes with a lot of positivity, however, we read a reviewer who said her mall experience was the most horrible and she is never stepping foot in a mall ever again!
Background story
Our reviewer Chinenye (name changed) is a mid 30s lady who lives in Enugu state Nigeria, for some reason she travelled to Lagos to see a friend who lives in Ikoyi. Frustrated by the unavailability of the open market, her friend told her to try mall XYZ which was just down the road and she could get everything she wanted instead of sitting hours in traffic to get to the open market.
Chinenye went to the mall and started shopping without paying so much attention to the prices. She bought her toiletries, some canned foods, a couple of provisions with a total bill of N37,500. She felt a certain way, she knew while shopping the price was slightly higher but she wasn’t expecting such a huge difference.
Where Do You Do Your Shopping? Mall Or Open Market
When she got home, Chinenye realized that to get these same things in Enugu usually cost her N20, 000 or less. This means she invariably spent N10, 000 extra just for shopping mall convenience. She felt awful and terrible, she relayed to her friend that sympathized with her while explaining to her that it is this way in this city.
After reading the review, we laughed so loud. That was when it struck us that there are so many people like Chinenye all over the country who feel shopping in a mall is more expensive. Well, lack of knowledge is a big issue in this regard.
There are various types of malls and reasons why people go to them. There are malls that their prices are slightly lower like Shoprite mall or Save more market place where you can get items less than the price you get them in the open market. There are also malls that are built to sell higher than the price in the open market.
To avoid making the statement above, it is advisable to find a mall around you that its pricing helps you save more.
