A whistleblower in Anambra State named Daniel Emeh, who had accused two senior police officers of involvement in organ harvesting, has found himself embroiled in a controversy involving allegations of bribery. Emeh, a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) working with the Nigeria Police, had been arrested because of a case investigating police officers allegedly engaged in human organ trafficking, kidnapping, and extortion.

Emeh’s lawyer, Justus Ijeoma, raised concerns about his client’s continued detention despite being granted bail by the court. Ijeoma accused Nkem Mba, the Deputy Chief Registrar (DCR) of the Federal High Court in Awka, of unprofessional conduct in processing Emeh’s bail. He alleged that DCR Mba had demanded a bribe of one million Naira for processing the bail, which they refused to pay.
DCR Mba, in her response, denied the bribery allegations and stated that Emeh had not met the bail conditions set by the court. She claimed that Emeh’s father had offered her a bribe, which she rejected. Mba insisted that once Emeh fulfilled the bail conditions, she would process his release and report the lawyer’s allegations to the police.
Ijeoma, in her protest letter, maintained that Emeh had fulfilled all the bail conditions except for one that required him to deposit his passport with the court but the Passport is said to be with the police, who had not released it. In compliance with a court order, the police eventually submitted the Passport to the court. However, DCR Mba’s alleged delays and uncooperative behavior have frustrated their efforts to secure Emeh’s release.
