Anita Natacha Akide, often known as Tacha, a former housemate on Big Brother Nigeria, has spoken on the use of tear gas on Thursday during the candlelight march for the late Mohbad.
She claims that rather than supporting efforts to end SARS, the crowd was come to pay tribute to the late singer and lyricist Mohbad.
Remember that on Thursday night, according to Naija News, supporters of the late Mohbad who gathered at the Lekki Phase 1 Gate in Lagos State for the late singer’s candlelight vigil were met with tear gas.

The parade began at the Lekki Phase 1 gate and was scheduled to culminate at Muri Okunola Park, where a memorial concert for the late artist was performed.
However, some of the late singer’s admirers and well-wishers who were making their way to the toll gate while wearing white t-shirts and dancing to his songs and holding posters and banners with his photos on them were subsequently dispersed with tear gas by the police.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s spokesperson, claimed in a statement issued on Friday that only a small amount of force was necessary to clear the mourners who had stopped the Lekki tollgate after attending the memorial at Muri Okunola Park.
He said that the Police and Mohbad procession organisers had already agreed that the Toll Gate would be off-limits.

When the Police decided to use tear gas, according to Hundeyin, no one was hurt or killed, despite pleas from the memorial’s organisers and the Police for those who had assaulted the tollgate to leave.
Tacha responded to the incident by praising the police for using tear gas to disperse the gathering and asserting that they were there for Mohbad and not EndSARS.
Tacha, who took to X, formerly Twitter, said, “We can all agree that every country has its issues. Every police have their issues. And Nigeria is not exempted.
“Everybody came out for Mohbad’s candle night procession. What happened at the park at VI? Now tell me how did people leave the park to Lekki Toll Gate. We can all agree that the organisers said you can all go home.

“But a lot of people did not come out yesterday for protest. But if you want to protest, pick a date and get the date approved by the government, and you can go out to protest. Stop changing the narrative.”
