Neymar, a forward for Paris Saint-Germain, has explained why his team’s failure to capture the Champions League last year.
The Brazilian claimed that the offensive trio of Messi, Mbappe, and himself wasn’t effective enough to lead the team to European success.
The 31-year-old made a record-breaking €222 million transfer to the French giants in 2017, the same summer Mbappe came on loan from Monaco. A year later, the pair agreed on a deal worth €145 million plus €35 million in add-ons.
After spending more than 17 years at Barcelona, Messi joined the pair in 2021 on a free transfer to form one of Europe’s most potent offensive combinations.

Despite their ferocious partnership, the trio couldn’t achieve success in the Champions League, crashing out in the quarter-finals.
“We had a very strong team. Messi, Mbappé, and I are three guys who are the best in the world. We knew it, but unfortunately, we didn’t fit in. It wasn’t good for us.”
The forward confirmed they wanted to win everything, but sometimes “football is not the right or the fair thing”.
