Abia State Governor Alex Otti has declared that his administration has taken steps to drastically cut government expenses and save money.
According to Naija News, the governor made the announcement at his monthly interactive media session on Sunday at the Government House in Umuahia.
Governor Otti stressed that his government has been able to meet its financial obligations, such as paying salaries and pensions, because of the money saved from needless expenditures made by prior governments. These savings have also made it easier to mobilise contractors for the state’s continuing large-scale construction initiatives.
“We have been able to save money from FAAC by stopping frivolous expenses such as paying a certain amount of money to ‘stakeholders’. Otti said, adding that in the new Abia, individuals must work and earn money rather than relying on handouts.
Otti went on to emphasise that the administration’s goal is financial reengineering, meaning that experts would oversee the state’s resources to ensure the best possible results.
The governor gave the people of Abia State confidence that his administration is protecting their finances.
