Arthur Egwim, the member representing Ideato North state seat in the Imo House of Assembly, has died.
According to a statement signed by House Speaker Emeka Nduka (APC Ehime Mbano) on Tuesday, Egwim died on Monday due to health concerns.
The lawmaker from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) was described by the speaker as “a ranking parliamentarian of note and a strong voice in the assembly.”
Nduka went on to say that his death would leave a void in the house because he was one of the “finest and best minds” there, and he prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul.

Egwim was elected to the eighth house for the first time in 2015. He had previously served as the House’s chief whip.
In a related development, retired general Oladipo Diya, the former Chief of State to the late dictator, General Sani Abacha, has died at the age of 78.
According to news sources, his family informed him of this in the early hours of Sunday.
In a statement signed on behalf of the family, Oyesinmilola Diya claimed the late general died today.
Between 1994 and 1997, Diya was the chief of staff of former President Sani Abacha. He was imprisoned and condemned to death for treason in 1997, but was released following Abacha’s death in 1998.
