Soldiers who carried out a coup in Niger Republic last week have warned the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) against deploying soldiers to the country to force them to renounce power.
The military of Niger Republic has warned that if ECOWAS resorts to military involvement, they will be completely prepared to protect their country.
ECOWAS issued a seven-day ultimatum to the coup plotters on Sunday to reinstate President Mohamed Bazoum as the democratically elected President of Niger Republic or face harsher penalties.

The directive was included in the message delivered by Omar Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission, following the Extraordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, which took place on Sunday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Nigeria.
It also charged all member-state Chiefs of Defense Staff with convening an emergency conference to brainstorm on effective ways to carry out a possible military operation to restore constitutional order to the country.
In a statement delivered on Niger national television, General Abdourahmane Tchiani, also known as Omar Tchiani, and the military authorities of Niger advised against any military intervention in response to ECOWAS’s threat to use force.
“The objective of the ECOWAS meeting is to approve a plan of aggression against Niger through an imminent military intervention in Niamey in collaboration with other African countries that are non-members of ECOWAS, and certain Western countries.

“We want to once more remind ECOWAS or any other adventurer of our firm determination to defend our homeland,” Aljazeera quoted the military spokesperson, Colonel Amadou Abdramane, to have said.
