Amobi Ogah, a candidate for the Labour Party, has lost his position as the representative for the Isuikwuato/Umunneochi House of Representatives seat in Abia State. The Election Petitions Tribunal is located in Umuahia, the capital of Abia.
According to the tribunal’s decision on Wednesday, Nkiru Onyejeocha of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is the legitimate winner of the seat.
Ogah received 11,822 votes in the House of Representatives election on February 25, while Onyejeocha received 8,752 votes, according to the first results.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had previously declared the results, but the tribunal’s decision nullified them.
In its ruling, the tribunal ordered INEC to give Nkiru Onyejeocha, the APC candidate, a new certificate of return in place of the one that had previously been given to Ogah.
Veteran politician Onyejeocha has been in office since 2007, and had previously held the position of deputy whip in the 9th House of Representatives.
President Bola Tinubu unexpectedly named Onyejeocha as the Minister of State for Labour and Employment after she unexpectedly lost the election to the Labour Party candidate.
The tribunal’s ruling has sparked debate over whether Ogah will keep her ministerial position after failing to file an appeal or if she will return to the House of Representatives.
