Senator Abdullahi Adamu, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has reportedly resigned from his position.
Iyiola Omisore, the party’s National Secretary, apparently followed his principal’s decision as well.
Adamu has faced numerous hurdles since the party’s contentious presidential election victory on February 25, 2023.
The election results are being challenged by the main opposition parties and their candidates, including Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
REVEALED: How Ribadu, Uzodinma ‘Forced’ Adamu To Resign As APC Chair
Leading APC figures have called for Adamu’s and Omisore’s resignations.
Insiders in the APC and the Presidency revealed to Prime Business Africa on Sunday night, speaking anonymously, that Adamu resigned at the request of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Adamu, whose tenure has been tumultuous, had scheduled a National Working Committee (NWC) meeting for Monday, July 17, as a precursor to Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) sessions on July 18 and 19. It is yet unknown what will come of these sessions.
Due to internal conflicts and intra-party politics, these same sessions were previously moved from last week to July 17, 18, and 19.
According to sources, the NWC and the President did not have a clear agenda for these sessions, which resulted in their postponement. Adamu is claimed to blame for this lack of direction.
REVEALED: Tinubu ‘Ordered’ Adamu’s Resignation, Kyari To Takeover
According to reports, the NWC unanimously supports the mandatory resignations of both the National Chairman and his Secretary.
Furthermore, there is apparent dissatisfaction with the party’s 2022 account audit, which was allegedly “completed and submitted without any of the members reviewing it.”
