Human rights campaigner Aisha Yesufu claims that Nigeria’s democracy is in danger of being destroyed by the court.
Yesufu was responding to the decision of the Appeal Court that had dismissed Abba Kabir Yusuf as the governor of Kano State.
Remember that Yusuf’s election had been declared void by a panel of three judges presided over by Justice Oluyemi Akintan Osadebay?

The court ruled that Yusuf’s 165,663 votes were void.
Because the votes were not signed or stamped by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the appeal court declared that they were void.
The governor, running on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), then received 853,939 votes, while Nasir Ganuwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) continued to receive 890,705 votes.
The All Progressives Congress’ (APC) candidate for governor, Gawuna, was proclaimed the official victor of the March 18 election by the Kano State Governorship Election Petition Court, which also declared Yusuf’s victory to be invalid.

Reacting, Yesufu posted on X: “The judiciary is really on the path to destroy democracy completely in Nigeria.
“In 2019 Kano people rejected APC yet rigged magic was done and now this again.
“When you take away the legitimate will of the people you open room for the illegitimate will to be exercised.
