On Tuesday, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres congratulated President Bola Tinubu on becoming the 16th president of Nigeria.
At the UN headquarters in New York, Stephane Dujarric’s spokesperson said this in response to questions from the news media.
“Nigeria is a significant partner of the UN and has a significant role to play in promoting sustainable development, peace, and security in the area, as well as globally.

“And we look forward to deepening the ties between Nigeria and the United Nations.,’’ Dujarric said.
In a related development, the Secretary-General also congratulated President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on his re-election as President of the Republic of Türkiye.
He looks forward to further strengthening the cooperation between Türkiye and the United Nations.
