Ebonyi State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Onyebuchi Chima has ordered the immediate termination of appointments of Mr. Sunday Onyemachi and John Olomu both teachers of Ginger International School, Hausa quarters, Abakaliki for flogging and leaving severe injury on 9 years Master Michael Raphael.
According to him, it will be part of their measures for lasting settlement between Michael’s parent and the school authority and also ordered the school proprietor to provide proper medical attention until he recovers
Narrating the ordeal, Michael’s mum, Mrs. Julie Nwaokeke said her child came back home last week Friday without two of his textbook, so she gave him a written note to give to his teacher to help him look for them in school
Narrating his ordeal, Master Michael said ” during the break, he delivered the letter to Mr. Sunday his class teacher and he asked me to kneel down close to his table and he showed me the two books that were missing.
” He then ordered a girl in primary 6 to go and get the cane for him and he collected the cane started flooding me all over my body, especially my back and bombom and When he was done flogging me.
” Mr. John primary 6 teachers walked in and asked what was going on my teacher told him that I did not finish his assignment and I didn’t collect my lesson note before going home over the weekend, then the primary 6 teachers picked up a cane and joined him in flogging me all over my body for the second time.
” They warned everyone in my class that if anybody should say what happened they will flog the person too.”
When contacted, The headmistress Mrs. Ginger Staller-Eke said she was not aware of the incident on the said day between Michael and his teacher because she was at the other side of the school building with the school headteacher sorting out examination question papers that have commenced on the 26th of November 2019
She noted that It was later in the evening on Monday that Michael’s mother called her at about 5:00 Pm and told her what the teachers did to his son, and she quickly rushed to Michael’s house to see for herself.
Mrs. Staller-Eke said she was surprised when she saw Michael back and she quickly called a staff who was with her to take Michael to a near clinic and buy drugs for first Aid first.
It was gathered that the school authority later ordered for the arrest of Mr. John and Mr. Sunday the following day when they came to school.
