Hon. Igo Aguma has been declared the acting chairman of APC in Rivers state. In a judgement today, Tuesday, June 9th, 2020 by the Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Justice George Omereji gave the ruling.
The court also urged the party to allow members loyal to Sen. Magnus Abe, who bought forms for the party congress of 2018 to partake in the process.
Justice George Omereji in his rulings declared that Aguma had the locus standi to approach the court, adding that there was the issue of injustice and violation of the civil right of the applicant.
Hon. Aguma in a request to the court through his lawyer, Echezona Etiaba, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria had urged the court to declare the Caretaker Committee brought by the National Working Committee of the party as void, and declare him to head the affairs of the state by virtue of his position as the National Delegate and Statutory member of the party.

In a statement by Justice Omereji, he said; “It is my view that the appointment of the caretaker of the Committee without the inclusion of the national delegate and SEC is a violation of the party’s constitution. All the National Convention Delegates and State Executive Committee members should be part of the caretaker Committee.”
He stated that the tenure of the caretaker committee of the party ended in September. He said the continuous stay of the caretaker Committee is null and void, even he described it as fatal.
All Aguma’s request was granted by the court and Justice Omereji urged that the decision of the court should take effect with immediate effect.
Aguma who reacted to the court judgment stated it was time to make peace. He promised to carry everyone along and rebuild the positive energy in the party. He said the party is bigger than any individual.
