Hannatu Musawa, minister of art, culture, and the creative economy, has renounced a widely circulated statement attesting to her membership in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and cabinet appointment.
After being sworn in as one of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 45 ministers, Anaedoonline.ng writes that Musawa’s NYSC status has been the focus of a heated media debate over the past several days.
The Minister allegedly absconded when she was first deployed for the programme in 2003, according to the management of NYSC, which corroborated the assertion that she is currently undertaking NYSC.
It Is Wrong To Be Serving And Being A Minister – NYSC, Falana Tell Musawa
Because she is a serving NYSC member, some detractors have claimed that she is ineligible for the position of minister.
However, the minister claimed that she had not violated any of the NYSC regulations in the now-disowned statement she released on Sunday.
In a statement headlined “My personal statement on my status as a serving minister,” Musawa said that President Bola Tinubu’s appointment of her came after an onslaught of criticism and false information in the media.
Suleiman Haruna, the Deputy Director of Press at the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, refuted the statement that had gone viral by claiming that Musawa had not made it.
He claimed that Musawa hasn’t made any official comments on the squabbles surrounding her NYSC status.
