Abubakar Adam, an 18-year-old student, was given a nine-month prison term on Wednesday by an Area Court in Jos, Plateau State, for stealing a phone.
Adam entered a guilty plea, and the judge, Shawomi Bokkos, condemned him after a quick trial.
The defendant was given the option of paying a N10,000 fine by Bokkos, who sentenced him to nine months in prison.
The judge also mandated that the convicted party pay the complaint N100,000 in damages, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.
He believed that the verdict would deter other potential criminals.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported by the complainant, Habizu Hassan, on February 20, at the ”C” Division.

Gokwat alleged that the convict trespassed into the complainant’s room and stole his Samsung phone valued at N85,000 and sold it to one Abdullahi Gambo for N13,000.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of the Penal Code Law of the state.
