Shehu Sani, a former lawmaker, has urged the National Assembly to seek a full breakdown of the data contained in President Bola Tinubu’s N500 billion loan request.
Sani also encouraged MPs to choose which government entity would manage the monies and how they would be distributed.
According to media sources, the President has requested a N500 billion loan for palliatives in order to mitigate the impact of the elimination of petrol subsidies.

However, in a statement on his verified Twitter account on Thursday, the social critic said that such a requirement would assure transparency and avoid any potential issue.
He wrote, “Before the approval of the N500 billion Presidential request for the palliatives, the National Assembly needs to demand the item-by-item breakdown of the figures; who is going to be in charge of the money; which agency of Government will handle the funds and how it’s going to be disbursed. This is for transparency and avoiding the past humanitarian ministry fiasco.”
