A security guard in a market in Onitsha, Anambra State, Ibuchi Nwoju, has allegedly killed a resident over face mask.
The victim identified as Cletus Chisom, a 22-year old man, was on Monday allegedly stabbed to death by the suspect, Ibuchi Nwoju in the chest with a knife following an altercation.
Anaedoonline gathered that the deceased’s sister was at the market with her mother to purchase some items when the suspect confronted her for not putting on a face mask.
The mother was said to have bought the face mask for her daughter after the suspect insisted that she would only be allowed into the market wearing a face mask.
Trouble began after the lady reportedly rushed home and mobilized her brother, who came to attack the suspect.
“It was during the brawl that the suspect drew a knife and stabbed the deceased in the chest, leading to his death,” a source told newsmen.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the incident to our correspondent.
He said the Commissioner of Police, John Abang, had ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, for discreet investigation.
Mohammed added, “Today (Monday), around 8.45 am, police operatives from the Okpoko Division in Onitsha arrested a private security guard attached to the Coca-Cola Market, Onitsha, one Ibuchi Nwoju, 26, of Asa village, Abia State, who resides in Onitsha, Anambra State.
“The suspect allegedly had an altercation with one Cletus Chisom, 22, of Ekekwe Street, Awada, and stabbed him in the chest with a knife.
“Consequently, the victim became unconscious and was rushed to the Goodnews Hospital, Onitsha, where he was confirmed dead on arrival by a medical doctor.
“The corpse was deposited in the Toronto Hospital’s mortuary for autopsy.”
