President Bola Tinubu is reportedly holding up the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the arrested leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
According to sources who spoke with Newsmen, the release of the IPOB leader was hampered by Imo State politics and the state’s upcoming governorship election.
Kanu was apprehended in Nairobi, Kenya, and returned to Nigeria under Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

Kanu was charged with terrorism upon his return to the country and is being held at the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters.
According to Presidency sources who spoke with SaharaReporters on Friday, President Tinubu has ordered Kanu’s release but has been urged not to do so at this time by those politicians close to him.
According to the platform, Tinubu was encouraged to stay until after the Imo State governorship election on November 11, 2023, because Kanu’s release before then could have political ramifications in the Southeast area.
One of the sources said, “The release of Nnamdi Kanu was stalled by the Southeast politics of Imo. They claimed to Tinubu that his release might affect the election in Imo so the President waited.”
