The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) has provided an explanation for the extended power outage that has affected the entire Imo State. This outage, which has lasted for nine days, is a result of an industrial action by organized labor and is beyond the EEDC’s control. In a statement by Mr. Emeka Ezeh, the Head of Corporate Communications at EEDC, the company empathized with its customers in Imo State.
Ezeh described the situation as unfortunate and clarified that the source of power for EEDC, the Egbu Transmission Station, has been shut down by the Labor Union. This disruption has left the EEDC unable to provide power to its customers in Imo State, as they can only distribute the power, they receive from Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) stations.
The EEDC acknowledged the hardships and inconveniences caused by this situation and expressed hope for a prompt resolution by the involved parties to restore normalcy in the state. The company is currently handicapped, losing significant revenue, and unable to provide service to its customers during this time.
Ezeh assured customers that they will not be billed for the period they were without power. The impact of the power outage will be reflected in the December bill, covering energy consumption in November, while the November bill, which pertains to October’s energy consumption, still needs to be paid by customers.
The EEDC also urged customers to remain vigilant and protect the electricity infrastructure serving them from potential vandalism, as some might take advantage of the outage to damage the equipment.
The power outage in Imo State, resulting from the shutdown of Egbu Transmission Station by organized labor, has left the entire state in darkness and prompted this clarification from the EEDC.
