President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not the first African leader to ring the closing bell at the National Association of Securities Dealers Automatic Quotation System (NASDAQ) in New York, as the Presidency previously claimed.
Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu’s special adviser on media and publicity, said in a statement on Friday that the Presidency made the assertion unintentionally based on details supplied by a third-party event organiser.
He said: “We have since found out that this information was/is incorrect as a former African leader has indeed had the privilege.

President Bola Tinubu, according to Anaedoonline.ng, was the first African head of state to ring the NASDAQ closing bell.
Ngelale had claimed on Thursday that the president’s invitation to the second-largest stock exchange in the world was in recognition of his steadfast efforts to aggressively entice foreign direct investment into Nigeria.
He claimed that when he was live in front of the financial markets at the renowned stock exchange, the President did not miss the chance to forcefully pursue his campaign for foreign investment.
