The police in Ondo State have revealed that gunmen in Ifon in the state’s Ose Local Government Area kidnapped some Christian worshipers who were on their way to a burial ceremony.
Members of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Igan, Akure, the state capital, are among the abducted people.
The state’s police spokesperson, SP Olufunmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, confirmed the kidnapping in a statement on Saturday and claimed the worshipers were taken on Friday afternoon.
“Last afternoon, the police received information that a church bus bearing the letters CAC had been abandoned near the Elegbeka neighborhood, and there are indications that the people inside may have been kidnapped.

“The Police Anti-kidnapping squad and other tactical teams have been deployed to the area to rescue the victims and arrest all involved in the crime,” Odunlami-Omisanya said.
A family member of one of the abductees who pleaded anonymity said that the worshippers were kidnapped at Elegbeka after Ifon in Ose council area while travelling for a burial ceremony.
“The vehicle conveying the kidnapped members who are choir members was seen abandoned by the roadside,” the woman said.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Owo-Ifon has been a nightmare for motorists due to incessant cases of kidnapping and armed robbery on the route.
