Comrade Philip Shaibu, the troubled deputy governor, is welcome to join the party, according to Kelly Ogbaloi, chairman of the Edo State Labour Party.
After meeting with the party’s governorship candidates on Friday, the chairman stressed that everyone is welcome to join the party.
He said, “If Philip Shaibu is coming to our party he will not be coming as Deputy Governor but as an individual like any other person. The party is open to everyone in Nigeria. The doors are open to anybody who want to come in to contest the election”.

According to Ogbaloi, the party made the decision to meet with the hopefuls after noticing that the number of aspirants is rising daily.
He continued by saying that the party should gather the candidates, engage them in conversation, and advise them on the best ways to raise awareness of their primary election. He claimed that we must also give them credit for the way they have behaved thus far.
In response to the question of whether the Labour Party will capitalise on the conflict between Governor Godwin Obaseki and Deputy Governor, Rt. Comrade Philip Shaibu, Ogbaloi stated that his party requires a strong opposition because winning a fight with a healthy man is more exciting and satisfying.
He added that the party expects all candidates to compete, noting that there would be fewer candidates during the selection of nomination forms and that one candidate will emerge at the conclusion of the process.

He stated that the party is ready for the upcoming local government election and added that no party would enter an election without preparedness.
