Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, was replaced at the current meeting of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja by Julius Abure, the party’s troubled chairman.
When the tribunal’s chief justice, Justice Haruna Tsammani, requested the introduction of the petitioners and respondents at 9:34 a.m., the troubled Chairman entered the room in place of Obi.
The vice president Kashim Shettima and the APC chairman Abdullahi Ganduje declared themselves to be the first responders.
UPDATE: I’m Still Labour Party National Chairman – Abure
Many were surprised by Obi’s absence from the tribunal because he has previously been seen there a few times on the day the panel is anticipated to render its decision regarding the outcome of the 2023 presidential election.
Recall that Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress won the poll, according to the Independent Electoral Commission, but Atiku Abubakar of the PDP and Obi are contesting the results.
With a total of 8,794,726 votes, Tinubu was crowned the victor by INEC, followed by Atiku in second place with 6,984,520 votes and Obi in third place with 6,101,533. However, they request that the tribunal declare the election’s results invalid and order a rematch.
The tribunal’s declaration will likely be made later today by Chief Justice Haruna Tsammani, with support from Justices Stephen Adah, Monsurat Bolaji-Yusuf, Moses Ugo, and Abba Mohammed.
