The member representing Nnewi North/ Nnewi South/Ekwusigo Federal Constituency, Engineer Chris Emeka Azubogu has applauded the organisers of the 2019 Onitsha City marathon stating that the marathon beyond its tourism impact on the economy also represents what South East and Ndi Anambra people are known for .
Azubogu made the statement while reviewing the success of the first Internationally certified marathon race in South East, the Onitsha City Marathon yesterday in his Abuja office .
The University of Nigeria, Nsukka trained Engineer, emphasized saying ”Marathon is a renowned sports tourism activity that boasts the economy of the hosting cities .
But looking at who we are as a people and Onitsha City Marathon, it tells a story of our people. A Story of resilience. People that strives to succeed against all odds”
Azubogu fondly known as ‘Mr Project’ called on all stakeholders especially in Anambra State to queue behind the organisers of Onitsha City Marathon so that they will improve from the maiden event and make Onitsha City Marathon an annual sports event in the state .

”Onitsha story must not start and end on with the event at Upper Iweka alone. Onitsha has lots to tell the world and nobody will tell your story better than yourself and this Onitsha City Marathon, represents one of great stories of Onitsha and Anambra as a community of opportunities for all men and women that wants to succeed genuinely ”
The legislator added saying that the time has come for our people to be the chief marketers of our inherent potential for exhibition to the world. Let us all strive to tell the world why they must come and not why they must not come !

Bernard Sang from Kenya became the winner of the first IAAF and AIMS 21km Marathon in Nigeria (Onitsha City Marathon). He finished at 1:04:34
