Adeseye Ogunlewe, a former Minister of Works, said on Sunday evening that Nyesom Wike’s appointment as a minister is a reward for his role in President Bola Tinubu’s ascension to power.
Wike, a former Rivers State governor and member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), endorsed Tinubu’s campaign, causing a schism within his own party.
Tinubu forwarded a list of ministerial nominations to the Senate about two months after taking office, including Wike, who hasn’t officially left the PDP.

This has prompted debate, although Ogunlewe has defended Wike’s nomination, emphasizing his key influence in the election’s outcome.
He said, “It is so easy to decipher. If you are following the development that cumulated in the last election, you would know the role Wike played and you must give him compensation for that role.”
Ogunlewe also stated that additional people who backed the APC during the election should be nominated.
He cited ex-Governor Dave Umahi and Nasir El-Rufai as examples, complimenting Umahi’s infrastructure efforts in Ebonyi State and implying that it might be reproduced on a national scale.
Ogunlewe warned the nominees to stick to the party’s platform, saying Tinubu “will not allow you [cabinet members] to mess him up.” He advised the nominees to be prepared to work hard.
