Governor Willie Obiano has task Traders in Anambra state to pay their taxes and levies regularly so as to fast track the developmental strides of the present government.
Obiano who was represented by his Deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke made the call during a meeting with market leaders in the state at the Government House Awka.
He explained that the level of development in the state depends much on revenue raised through taxation and called on traders in the state to help the present administration in the actualization of its lofty vision for the state by adhering to taxation laws.
Governor Obiano also warned against street trading and asked the market leaders to assist the government in enforcing the order in their various markets, for the good of all.
Also speaking, the state Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Mr. Uchenna Okafor disclosed that seventy percent of tickets sold in markets across the state are fake, warning that the state government will no longer allow such practice as it is negatively affecting both the traders and the state government’s internally generated revenue, and called on the market Heads to partner the government to bring to an end the illegal practice.

Mr. Okafor affirmed that the welfare of indigenes and non-indigenes of the state are top priority of the Governor Obiano led administration, hence the need for all to support the government.
On his part, the President Anambra State Traders Union, Chief Ikechukwu Ekwegbalu assured that the traders will continue to play their part through prompt payment of their taxes, calling for the urgent fulfillment of the various promises of the government to the markets in the state, including the stationing of fire service outfit at Onitsha main market area and drilling of borehole facilities in markets across the state.
In their various interviews some of the Market Heads that spoke reporters, including Reverend Kingsley Ogbonna, and Chief Elisius Umeozokwele described the meeting as successful, as issues discussed are for the benefit of both the state and the traders, and promised to help in mobilizing other traders on compliance to regular tax payment.
