On Monday, the Bauchi State Police Command denied a widespread story that ten people were killed by assailants in the Alkaleri Local Government Area, where oil was reportedly discovered.
SP Ahmad Wakil, the state police spokesman, confirmed in Bauchi that the report was entirely false.
He also stated that the findings could jeopardise efforts by the police and other security agencies to reduce crime in the state.
“It is important to note that the police leadership has had considerable success in combating insecurity, particularly around the Alkaleri axis.”

“Sequel to the inauguration of the Kolmani Oil Field, the command deployed more operational assets and intensified intelligence gathering, and visibility patrols to decimate activities of non-state actors in the area,” Wakil stated.
The police advised media organisations to always verify and authenticate reports from credible sources for factual reportage.
