Shehu Sani, a socio-political activist, has spoken out in response to an Abuja Federal High Court judgement that ordered suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari to the Kuje jail facility.
Sani expressed fear about Kyari’s safety in prison, claiming that the former head of the Police Intelligence Response Team, or IRT, could be hurt.
In a tweet, the former Kaduna Central Senator said that when a police officer is sent to prison, prison wardens are normally concerned about assuring his or her safety.

“When a police officer is ordered to be remanded in jail, the first worry of the prison wardens is how to keep him safe from the inmates he previously detained and led to their incarceration; in such instance, he is put in a different cell to avoid being assaulted or otherwise hurt,” Sani explained.
Justice Emeka Nwike had ordered Kyari and six others facing drug trafficking charges to be sent to the Kuje penitentiary facility by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, or NDLEA.
After denying bail to the former Deputy Commissioner of Police and other defendants, the judge issued the order.
Justice Nwite had ruled that the NDLEA had presented the court with enough evidence to refuse Kyari and the other defendants bail.
