In a significant operation, the Joint Task Force Northwest, under Operation Hadarin Daji, successfully rescued 17 kidnapped victims and reclaimed a substantial number of rustled cattle in Zamfara state. This remarkable achievement was recently reported by Captain Yahaya Ibrahim, the Force Information Officer for Operation Hadarin Daji, in a statement released on the Nigerian Army’s official platform.
Rescue in Response to Distress Call
On September 14, 2023, troops received a distress call that led to the thwarting of a kidnapping attempt. The swift response resulted in the rescue of two victims and the recovery of a commercial vehicle carrying food supplies. This operation took place near corner Jollof in Shinkafi Local Government area of Zamfara state.
Troops stationed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Danjigba, conducting a routine patrol, intercepted and rescued three kidnapped victims. An initial investigation revealed that these victims had been abducted from their farmlands and were held captive in Dangajeru forest. Thanks to the intensified clearance operation by the troops in the area, the victims successfully escaped their captors.
In another courageous operation on September 13, 2023, troops of Operation Hadarin Daji in Zamfara state intercepted and rescued eight kidnapped victims in Baggega. Preliminary findings showed that these victims had endured captivity for a staggering eight weeks. They managed to break free from Gando forest, all thanks to the recent offensive operation and constant fighting patrols conducted by the troops along the forest’s fringes.

Commendations and Ongoing Vigilance
Major General Godwin Mutkut, the Commander of Operation Hadarin Daji, and the General Officer Commanding 8 Division Nigerian Army, commended the troops for their relentless efforts and unwavering commitment in rescuing the victims. He urged them not to let up in their efforts and to maintain an offensive stance, ensuring that criminals are consistently denied the freedom to act.
General Mutkut reassured the local populace of the troops’ continuous intensity and patrols within their areas of responsibility. He also emphasized the importance of citizens providing timely information to the troops, enabling them to carry out their operations effectively and protect the community.
