In an early morning air strike on September 11, 2023, fighter aircraft of the Nigerian Air Force’s Operation Hadin Kai targeted Boko Haram terrorists in Suwa, located in the Kala Balge Local Government Area of Borno State. The operation aimed to dislodge remnants of terrorists in the Northeast region and clear the area of insurgents and criminals.
Suwa had previously served as a stronghold for Boko Haram terrorists in the Gezuwa general area near the notorious Sambisa Forest. However, concerted efforts by the military and security agencies had led to the dislodgment of the terrorist presence.
Recent intelligence reports had indicated that Boko Haram militants were regrouping in the Suwa area with intentions to launch attacks on troops patrolling major routes to Bama and Mafa Local Government Areas. Additionally, there were concerns of an impending attack on troops stationed in Rann, Kala Balge Local Government Area.

In response to these threats, the Nigerian Air Force authorized air strikes to neutralize the terrorists and destroy their structures. The operation successfully incapacitated the militants, degrading their ability to pose a threat to security forces and civilians.
The collaborative efforts of various security agencies operating in the Northeast region have yielded positive results. However, the work is far from over, and the need to sustain these efforts remains crucial. The Nigerian Armed Forces and security agencies continue to require the support of all Nigerians as they work tirelessly to eliminate criminal elements from the region.
Air Component Commanders in joint operating theatres have received a clear directive from the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar: pursue these criminals relentlessly and ensure they face justice. The days of handling them with leniency are long gone.
