Nigeria is in mourning as it bids farewell to one of its statesmen, Malam Dr. Adamu Fika (Wazirin Fika), who passed away at the age of 90. The former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) had been battling health-related challenges for some time, and his journey came to an end while returning from a London hospital to Kaduna.
Born in 1933 in Fika, which is now part of Yobe State, Malam Adamu Fika had a remarkable civil service career. His contributions were not limited to government service; he later assumed the role of Pro-chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria. He also held the position of Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) for the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF).

The Wazirin Fika embarked on his educational journey at Kaduna Government College and the Nigerian College of Arts, Science, and Technology, now known as Ahmadu Bello University. Throughout his career, he served as a Permanent Secretary in various federal ministries, including Internal Affairs, Commerce, and Communications.
Malam Adamu Fika’s contributions extended to his appointment as the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, where he played an instrumental role in the development of Nigeria. His exceptional service earned him numerous honors and awards, including the Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) bestowed by the Federal Government in 1992.
Funeral prayers for Malam Adamu Fika will be held at the Sultan Bello Mosque in Kaduna on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. Nigeria joins in mourning the loss of a great statesman and public servant.
