The Minister who visited the airport on Thursday, as part of his tour of the South East said that the president has since approved the release of 10bn for the rehabilitation.
He said that the government was okay with the timeline given by the contractor for the completion of the rehabilitation.
“The contractor in charge of the rehabilitation has given us the 31st of March as date for completion of work and Easter is in the middle of April. So that gives us a period of two weeks for everything to be consummated before Easter” he said.
He noted that the airport is being reconstructed to meet international standards which explains why the sum of 10bn, more than what was used to work on the Abuja Airport, was approved by the president.
“We are working on the runway and the lights as well as the remodelling of the international arrival and departure as well as the cargo section”. Both ends of the landing are going to be concrete because that is what is in Vogue for Internatoonal Airports around the world” he explained.
He noted that the South East Minsters and members of the Federal Executive Council will also visit in two weeks time to also access the rate and quality of work ongoing at the airport.
“If the contractor continues with the present rate and quality of work, then we will have no problem” he said.
