In accordance with Nigerian Armed Forces tradition and norms, over 20 senior military commanders would leave the service following the appointment of new Service Chiefs.
On Monday, President Bola Tinubu sacked all service chiefs, including the Inspector-General of Police, Advisers, and Comptroller-General of Customs, and nominated new ones.
According to Willie Bassey, Director of Information in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), the new appointees will begin work immediately.

Those affected were Lucky Irabor, who was fired as Chief of Defence Staff, Faruk Yahaya, who retired as Chief of Army Staff, Awwal Gambo, who was fired as Chief of Naval Staff, and Isiaka Amao, who was retired as Chief of Naval Staff.
While those appointed include Maj. Gen. C.G Musa as Chief of Defence Staff, Maj. Gen. T. A Lagbaja as Chief of Army Staff, Rear Admiral E. A Ogalla as Chief of Naval Staff, AVM H.B Abubakar as Chief of Air Staff, and Maj. Gen. EPA Undiandeye as Chief of Defense Intelligence.
Military personnel from the same Regular Course as the next Chief of Defence Staff, who is a member of Course 38, are not likely to serve under him, according to the Daily Trust.
However, there are still some Regular Course 37 members in the service, which means that they will all leave the military as soon as Musa takes over.
However, there was no official comment on this at the time of filing this report.
