He shared his displeasure over the way the issue has been handled through a series of tweets on his handle @Mbanire.
The three-time Lagos commissioner said he saw an urgent need to write about the airline issue whereby many international aircraft and local flights can neither take off nor land at the airport. He lamented that many businesses have incurred losses due to this event.

He termed it a “conspiracy of silence“ that no media house is questioning the ineptitude of the airport authorities and the National Assembly keeping mute on the issue. He said,”
Banire also pointed fingers at the Minister of Aviation, who he alleged maybe in absentia and needs a reminder.
He urged the relevant authorities to look into the issue which is an eyesore and an international embarrassment to the nation.
In September 2019, the Lagos airport was reportedly leaking from the roofs, toilets filled with water; it was later repaired after a National outcry. In 2018, MMIA was ranked the fifth among the worst airports in the world by The Guide to Sleeping in Airports – an international survey.
The MMIA which was built in 1970 and serves over six million passengers yearly, compared to about 200,000 it supposed to serve at inception
