The London Academy of Business School (LAB), in partnership with the University of Sunderland in the United Kingdom, is set to make its mark in Nigeria. This exciting development comes following the granting of a license by the National University Commission (NUC) to operate in the country.
Dr. Derek Watson, an associate professor from the Faculty of Business Law at LAB, shared this exciting news after a productive meeting with Chris Maiyaki, the Acting Executive Secretary of the NUC, in Abuja. The collaboration is expected to bring exceptional educational opportunities to Nigerian students.
One of the standout features of this partnership is that LAB will provide Nigerian students with the same high academic standards that their counterparts in the UK experience. This means that students in Nigeria can benefit from world-class education without leaving the country.
The inaugural academic session is scheduled to commence in January 2024 at the Public Service Institute of Nigeria in Abuja, offering students a wide range of undergraduate and master’s level programs. These programs include computer science, business and management, network system engineering, business administration, international business management, education leadership, and more.

The Public Service Institute of Nigeria, where the courses will be offered, boasts impressive facilities, including a 500-seat auditorium, multiple halls, hostels, a hospital, a sports complex, an entrepreneurship center, and various amenities to ensure a conducive learning environment.
Dr. Watson emphasized the importance of following compliance procedures and sourcing qualified academics to deliver programs. This commitment to quality education ensures that students in Nigeria receive the same academic experience as those studying in England.
In a country where millions of students apply for university admissions each year, this collaboration seeks to address the challenge of limited spaces in Nigerian universities. By obtaining the necessary recognition from the NUC, LAB and the University of Sunderland are creating new pathways for students to pursue their education and career goals.
