I thought we had finally put it behind us,’ President Muhammadu Buhari said on Wednesday when asked why certain African nations were still plunging into the abyss of unconstitutional change of leadership.
According to Buhari, who discussed his experiences under both military and civilian government, “multi-party democracy is the greatest system.”
On Wednesday, the President addressed a group from the Universal Peace Federation at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
President Buhari promised Nigeria’s assistance for the Peace Summit being organized for Abuja to bring all of Africa together before the conclusion of his government, “according to resources, to help in stabilizing surrounding nations.”
He bemoaned the issues in the Sahel region of the continent, regretting that they are quite worrying since they have a negative impact on both enterprises and agriculture.
The President expressed his delight at the development and called the Universal Peace Federation Africa’s interest in the continent “very real.”
After holding similar conferences in the past in the Niger Republic, Senegal, Sao Tome and Principe, South Africa, among other places, Dr. Katherine Rigney, Chairperson of the Federation in Africa, and Dr. Thomas Walsh, Chairman of the Universal Peace Federation International, expressed their belief that the upcoming summit in Nigeria “will top them all.”
President Buhari will receive the Leadership and Good Governance Award at the Abuja Summit, which will serve as “a celebration of your anti-corruption credentials and acknowledgment of the outstanding outcomes you’ve brought to Nigeria.”
