Festus Keyamo, a former minister of state for employment in Nigeria, has arrived at the location of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal to support President Bola Tinubu’s election victory on February 25.
As the hearing of claims brought by the opposition parties commenced today, Newsmen reports that Keyamo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), joined other members of the newly sworn-in president’s legal team.
The former Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council spokesperson appeared in court for the first time in relation to the tribunal hearings.
Presidential Tribunal: Why Peter Obi Can’t Ask Court To Declare Him Winner – Keyamo
Remember that the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Atiku Abubakar, the Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and others petitioned the tribunal to overturn Tinubu’s victory on the grounds of flagrant violations of the Constitution, the Electoral Act, and INEC’s (Independent National Electoral Commission) rules for conducting the election.
Former vice president Atiku is pleading with the court to allow a new election to be held because there were allegedly irregularities at voting locations during the presidential election. He based his motion on five reasons.
On the other hand, Obi insists that Tinubu and his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima, were ineligible to compete for office and is citing a number of anomalies in the way the election was conducted.
