The market which is located along Onitsha road in Nnewi was sealed off today, in the early hours of 2 am.
The market was allegedly sealed in a bid to relocate traders of the market to Nwanyi Imo, popularly known as Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Plaza/Park.
The market was cordoned by Nigeria Soldiers assisted by Men of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Civil Defence, and some Local Vigilantes
Speaking to Anaedoonline, some of the traders said that the order to relocate is coming so sudden as they are yet to recount from their losses in the last fire accident.
Currently, the market is silent as different security agencies are brandishing their guns and several weapons to scare traders from accessing their shops.
This order affects every single electrical shop in this line including the very popular Agupson & Sons and other big stakeholders in the line.
Speaking to Anaedoonline, the Factional Market Leader, Mr. Kenneth Ofodum, said that he was told that the Market was closed by Anambra State Commissioner of Trade and Commerce, Hon. Uchenna Okafor, noting that despite being the Market Leader, he was not informed about the plan to seal off the market or to relocate.
Asked if the Market was sealed due to the recent fire that gutted the market, he said that such reason remains flimsy as there have been many fire incidents in markets in Anambra State.
On the next step the traders intend to take, Mr. Ofodum said that he has called for the intervention of the Member Representing Nnewi North in Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Nonso Smart Okafor.
At the time of writing, traders of the market are still lost when they will gain assess to their shops.
