The Federal Government has evacuated 292 Nigerians who were stranded in Saudi Arabia due to the lockdown necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The flight conveying the evacuees arrived late on Tuesday night at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja.
Their arrival was announced on Wednesday morning by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama via his official Twitter handle.

He said a large number of the evacuated Nigerians are nursing mothers and children.
“We received 292 evacuees stranded in Saudi Arabia yesterday. The Saudi Government transported them to Abuja. A large number are nursing mothers and children and they are all comfortably settled in hotels under the mandatory 14 days quarantine. #COVID19 #PTFCOVID19,” Onyeama tweeted.
However, Evacuated Stranded Nigerians on returning home will henceforth pay for their two-weeks quarantine bill on arrival, according to the revised guidelines.
But before now, the evacuees were only required to pay for their flight while the government takes care of their two weeks stay in isolation.
Evacuated Nigerians To Pay Outrageous Amount For Quarantine
Returnees from United Arab Emirates (UAE), the United States and the United Kingdom who are currently kept in Lagos and Abuja hotels are being taken care of by the government. The new guidelines stopped that.
The new guidelines have been sent to Embassies and High Commissions which have communicated them to Nigerians wishing to return home.
