John Obi Mikel, a former player for Chelsea and the Super Eagles, announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 35.
The former Nigerian international confirmed his retirement on Tuesday, according to an earlier report by Anaedoonline.ng.
After a 20-year professional career in which he won awards for both clubs and his country, the Super Eagles captain resigned from the game of round leather.

Some of Obi’s former teammates thanked him for his services to the game and his exploits with the national team and abroad in the comments section after the announcement.
