General Manager of the Onitsha River Port, Wannes De Wit, recently made a statement in which he reaffirmed his commitment to the expansion and development of the port in Nigeria. De Wit emphasised the advantages it offers for businesses both domestically and internationally while discussing the port’s potential.
De Wit cites the Onitsha Port’s capacity to handle barging and cargo clearance as one of its main benefits. This implies that companies may easily clear their goods at the port and carry them there on barges.
De Wit further emphasised that the Onitsha Port offers direct export opportunities to other ports across the world. Exporters in the area can now deliver their goods directly to foreign countries without having to deal with the traffic jams and delays that are frequently connected with larger ports. This would increase trading prospects for neighbourhood firms and establish the Onitsha Port as a major role in the world trade system.
To Increase Nigerian Trade, Lekki Port And CMA CGM Shipping Works Together
De Wit stated intentions to give the Onitsha Port’s dredging priority after stressing the value of ongoing upgrading. The goal of the current dredging operations is to keep the port’s accessibility and navigability for larger vessels while also improving it. The port can accommodate larger goods and draw more foreign trade if it is routinely dredged.
The Federal Government is concentrating on promoting the development and effectiveness of the Onitsha Port as part of a larger effort to boost economic development and ease regional trade. The Onitsha Port, Nigeria’s second-largest inland port, is essential for tying together the nation’s diverse regions. The port wants to develop into a significant hub for both domestic and international trade, promoting economic growth and job creation in the area, by investing in its infrastructure and increasing its capacities.
