The government of Imo State led by Senator Hope Uzodimma has once more assured Ndi-Imo of his commitment to the payment of pensions and other legitimate financial entitlements of the State.
The governor spoke through the Secretary to the Government of Imo State, Chief Cosmas Iwu, when a group under the auspices of Imo Pensioners Association led a peaceful protest to the Government House, Owerri, earlier today to appeal to Governor Uzodimma to fast-track the processes he has put in place to clear the backlog of pensions being owed them.
The government of Imo State uses this medium to remind the retirees that the delay in the payment of their pensions was mainly due to the discrepancies in their names and challenges relating to payment vouchers bedeviled with fraudulent entries.
The government promises that the solution to the problem is almost completed and urges the pensioners to exercise a little more patience so that the problem can be solved once and for all.
The discrepancies were discovered in the pension’s payroll system inherited by the current administration.
For instance, Some pensioners’ names appeared twice with different amount of money and even BVN numbers. However, the temporary delay is to put things straight and ensure that the right persons get what belongs to them.
The government notes, however and regrettably so that the process of cleaning up the mess in the State pension payment has lingered unexpectedly, but the pensioners are assured that the government is not resting on it’s oars to ensure that smiles are put on the faces of the pensioners.
The government of Imo State appreciates the peaceful manner with which our senior citizens had conducted themselves today in maturity and elderly disposition for which they are known for and prays for more life and good health for the pensioners as they continue with their advisory roles to the State as elders.
