Imo State Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere, may emerge APC deputy governorship candidate for the 2019 general elections.
Reports indicate that Prince Eze Madumere, may bounce back as the running mate to Senator Hope Uzodinma due to his role in the Imo APC Restoration Coalition otherwise known as the ‘Allied Forces’.
The Allied Forces are responsible for successful wrestle of the APC structure from Governor Rochas Okorocha.
According to the report, Madumere’s role in the Imo APC Restoration Coalition otherwise known as the ‘Allied Forces’ that successfully wrested the APC structure from Governor Rochas Okorocha was said to be the biggest consideration in his choice. Many names were said to have been presented but the choice was narrowed down to Madumere because of his calm disposition.
He was also considered because of what was perceived as his role in providing stability to the Okorocha administration and his wider reach. His choice is also geared towards assuaging the anger of Owerri Zone, which presented eight aspirants in the last governorship primaries but failed to get the ticket over their inability to arrive at a consensus candidate.
Responding to the speculation, media aide to Madumere, Uche Onwuchekwa, said: “Well, we are watching, but the prospect cannot be ruled out.
Remember his role in the coalition and the fact that he was one of the forerunners in the governorship primary election.”
About a month ago, the High Court in Owerri declared as invalid and of no legal effect, the impeachment of Madumere.
The presiding judge, Justice Benjamin Iheaka, made the declaration on Tuesday, September 25, which sparked wild jubilation within the premises of the court.
The chief judge of the state, Paschal Nnadi, and the attorney general of the state, Militus Nlemadim, were flayed by the judge for not adhering to the provision of the section 188(5) of the 1999 constitution as amended in the impeachment of Madumere on July 31, 2018.
