In an awe-inspiring display of tradition, charisma and regal magnificence, Nnewi reverberated with jubilation on the 28th of December as HRH Igwe Dr. K.O.N. Orizu III (CON, JP) marked his 98th birthday and astounding 60 years on the throne during the Ofala Nnewi 2023. This historical landmark took place at the Palace of Igwe Nnewi in recognition of the king’s unwavering leadership and traditional essence of the Nnewi community.
Under the umbrella of ‘Igwe n’ eje Uka (the Christian king) as the royal father is fondly called, the day commenced with a reverent church service led by the Otolo Anglican Community. Distinguished guests, including former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, Archbishops, Priests and the high spirited people of Nnewi, gathered to offer prayers and celebrate the momentous occasion.

Following the church service, Nnewi’s traditional ruler, Igwe Kenneth Orizu led a procession with his family and the Igwe’s Royal Cabinet. Acknowledging the support and presence of the community, the monarch expressed gratitude for the unity and peace prevailing in Nnewi, invoking blessings for more prosperity.
Ofala Nnewi 2023 unfolded as a week-long cultural and innovative event, drawing luminaries from Anambra, Enugu, Imo and beyond. Notable personalities in attendance included the first Female Governor of Anambra State, Dame Virgy Etiaba, fmr. Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, TC Chairman of Nnewi North, Engr. Chris Obiora, Obi of Umudim, Obi Orizu Okafor, Ogidi (IV), Obi of Nnewichi, Obi George Onyekaba, Chief Barr. Emeka Nwosu, Ebubedike Obi, Hon Chris Atuegwu, (Ogbuefi Chinyelugo), Anayo Nwosu, (Ikenga Ezenwaegwu), PG Uruagu, Chief Innocent (Makuochukwu Nnewi), Chika Okafor (Chicason), Sir Ben Nwosu, Engr. Obiora Nwizu (Akalaka), Sir George Moghalu, Chief Medical Director of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi, Prof. Joseph Ugboaja, Oseloka Osigwe (SAN) and a multitude of esteemed individuals who graced the event, paying homage to the revered Igwe on his 98th birthday.
Engr. Chris Obiora, the Transition Committee (TC) Chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Area, expressed joy over the celebration. He hailed Igwe Kenneth Orizu as a unique leader and supporter of the people, extending heartfelt wishes for sound health and continued reign.

Adding a crescendo to the grandeur, over 20 distinguished individuals received chieftaincy titles in recognition of their exceptional contributions. Awardees, including Ebubedike George Obi (Oka Ome Nnewi), Prof. Ifeoma Isabella Ulasi (Adachijiazondu), the wife of okeosisi Nnewi and professor of Medicine and Nephrology. Chief Engr. Emeka Agbasi (Omenka Nnewi), Mrs Favour Chika Okafor, (Iyom Chibugo Nnewi), the wife of Chika Okafor, founder of Chicason group. Obiora David Nwizu (Akalaka Nnewi), CMD-NAUTH, Dr. Joseph Ugboaja (Ochinanwata), Goddy moghalu (Ikukuoma Nnewi), Dr. Elias Okonkwo given (Ugwumba Nnewi), Sir Uche Anazodo (Uzochukwukwalu Nnewi), Martin Ibeanunsi (Ifeadikachukwu Nnewi), Founder of Moonshine Residence, Prof. Victor Madubuko, CEO Erisco Foods, Mr. Eric Umeofia and others were honored for their outstanding commitment to humanity.
Apart from individuals, groups equally graced the Ofala Festival and paid homage to the king including the Ofala Committee, Nnofor youths, Ekwueme social club, Chinedu widow’s and farmers Association, Ohamadike, Ochinanwata Support Group, amongst others.
The atmosphere was one of unbridled merriment, with an abundance of food and drink. Amidst dancing, laughter, and joyous celebration, the people of Nnewi expressed their appreciation to Igwe Kenneth Orizu III, (JP, CON), on this monumental occasion.
