The House of Assembly Complex was demolished, according to the Rivers State Government, because of structural flaws mostly brought on by a recent explosion and fire occurrence.
Because of this incident, the main building has been declared unsafe for human habitation.
The governor inspected the building the day of the fire incident, according to a statement made by Joseph Johnson, the Rivers State Commissioner for Information.

Professionals were then invited to evaluate the complex’s structural integrity.
After their evaluation, it was determined that demolition and rebuilding were necessary.
Notably, powerful dynamites were used in the intricate attack, resulting in substantial damage and rocking the building to its core. Later evident wall fissures made the entire structure unstable and unfit for use as a legislative venue.
“After the assessment of the integrity of the complex, the experts warned the government that continuing to use the building in its present state would be disastrous”, he said, noting that the government had tried all cost saving measures towards repair of the complex until it bowed to superior view of rebuilding the complex to a more befitting edifice.
