The withdrawal of fuel subsidies by President Bola Tinubu’s new administration has drawn criticism from the Labour Party (LP).
The Labour Party accused Tinubu of torturing Nigerians in the same way that the historical Pharaoh, King of Egypt, tormented and punished the Israelites who were his captives.
The party bemoaned the fact that Tinubu’s first executive order as president had caused a gasoline shortage, long lines at gas stations, higher transportation costs, and other hardships across the board.
UPDATE: Tinubu Makes Clarification On Fuel Subsidy Removal Comment
According to Newsmen, during his inaugural speech on Monday, Tinubu said that the era of gasoline subsidies was over, prompting the immediate closure of gas stations and a nationwide shortage of the commodity.
The Labour Party responded to the situation in a statement released on Monday and signed by Pastor Obiora Ifoh, the party’s acting national publicity secretary. The statement read: “As we speak now, the queues are back and Nigerians will, as was the case in the previous administration, start to keep vigils in the filling station to get just a few litres of petrol.
“As expected commercial transporters have hiked their trip fares across the country in response to the developments. While product hawkers are once more the king of the jungle.
Labour Party Roasts Tinubu’s Inauguration Speech, Calls It ‘Celebration of Lies’
“This scenario easily reminds one of the story of a certain Pharaoh who on assumption of throne empowered his task-masters to triple the daily tasks of the Jews. What a way to announce one’s emergence as the sheriff in town. President Tinubu’s first executive proclamation was such that it is purposed to inflict pains on Nigerians.”
