Dr. Alex Otti, the governor of Abia State, has ordered the immediate suspension of all forms of transport levies imposed on tricycles (Keke), buses, taxis, and other commercial vehicles operating on Abia roadways and payable to the Abia government.
According to a statement made on Wednesday by the governor’s media adviser, Ferdinand Ekeoma, this is in keeping with the governor’s election pledge to clean up the state’s tax collecting practices and put an end to all forms of extortion, intimidation, and harassment of drivers.

He declared that until the government evaluates these levies and discloses its plans for the efficient, orderly, and transparent collection of such transportation levies in a way that would not result in extortion, intimidation, or violation of rights and privileges of Abia residents.
The administration, according to the statement, thinks the current approach is outdated and seriously detrimental to both the economic health of the state and the lives of its citizens, so it shouldn’t be permitted to continue.
Ekeoma stated that in light of the aforementioned decision, the governor has ordered all parties involved, both directly and indirectly, to cease immediately or face the consequences of their actions. Security agents have also been instructed to detain and prosecute anyone discovered to be in violation of this order.
