Funke Ashekun, a Nigerian blogger residing in the US, was fined a record $50,000 by a Baltimore County Circuit Court in the United States, presided over by Theresa Adams, for defaming the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) and Prof. Daniel Olukoya, the organization’s general overseer.
Prof. Olukoya’s media assistant Collins Edomaruse communicated this information to TRIBUNE ONLINE on Thursday.
The jury found that Ms. Ashekun had misrepresented the pastors of the Mountain of Fire and defamed the church in her posts. A majority decision was rendered by the court in support of Mountain of Fire USA and its three pastors, Grace Ugeh, Kunle Ladipo, and Adekunle Adekola (Case No.: C-03-CV-22-004424).

Ashekun, a Nigerian woman who just immigrated to the US, has been disseminating untrue information about the MFM Church and its General Overseer on social media. Her purpose in acting was to damage the standing of the revered Man of God and his work.
She was pushed to change her mind about her destructive aim and to follow wise advice, but she didn’t give up. In less than a year, the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (U.S.) prevailed in their legal battle against her.
The General Overseer, the local pastors of the MFM ministry, and the ministry itself saw the outcome as a victory. The Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministry’s principal attorney, Gilbert Garcia, conveyed appreciation, saying, “The Church was happy that the jury found in favour and vindicated our Position.”
