Mr. Abideen Olatunbosun, national president of the Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers, or NALPGAM, raised alarm about the rising price of gas yesterday. He added that if the increase is not handled, gas would become a product exclusively accessible to the wealthy.
However, the association encouraged the Federal Government to maintain the country’s cooking gas price stability.
At the association’s 36th Annual General Meeting, or AGM, which was held in Ibadan, Olatunbosun made this statement.
Cooking Gas Marketers Stop Importation As Price Jumps By 240%
In his own words: “I need to clarify that the recent and steady rise in gas prices poses a significant challenge to LPG marketers. Everyone is concerned about the increase in petrol prices.
“The government needs to find ways to ensure the stability of gas prices as well as make gas available to common Nigerians.
“As a country, we need to improve on our gas utilisation level and if we all adopt gas, it will save our forest and improve the quality of our lifestyle and the economy will grow.”
Also speaking, the Executive Director of Distribution Systems, Storage and Retailing Infrastructure of the Nigerian Midstream And Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA, Mr Ogbugo Ukoha, said that the recent deregulation policy would result in a reflective petroleum products pricing.
Ukoha noted that current data had shown that the domestic gas supply had overtaken the import supply.
